Metalheads, Goths, punks, bikers, gays and lesbians—basically anyone with coveted outsider status—all make this dark grunge-hole their weekly haunt. High-lacquer cocktail tables and stools are clustered around the spacious burgundy and black room. The ceiling is covered with posters of punk and metal bands and the jukebox is chock full of their music: Slayer, Ministry, Christian Death. Bats and shrunken heads hang among the dark, bondage-themed artwork. On certain nights the bar-top itself takes a burlesque twist as pole dancers clad in fetish gear entertain the crowd while a D.J. spins a range of punk, 80s, new wave, metal, goth. from the sidelines. Black insignia thongs, prominently displayed above the bar, are the perfect keepsake of the night's depravity.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
