Even though it has D.J.'s, the small bar adjoining Mama’s Food Shop isn’t falling all over itself to make the Avenue A scene. An awning advertises the dump of a deli it replaced; and the sparse furnishings— a couple of group tables, some old-time wallpaper, a dropped ceiling and some thrift shop paintings—were either salvaged or donated. Happily, the goings-on behind the small cherrywood bar aren’t as laissez-faire: next to a couple of stuffed crows, fruits infuse jars of vodka, rum, even tequila.
