Profile

"Handsome" Dick Manitoba spent the '70s fronting semi-legendary Bronx punk band the Dictators (which still performs from time to time) and the '80s bartending at seemingly half the watering holes in the East Village. In the '90s, he combined his areas of expertise to open this place, a comfortable mix of old-time rocker hangout and neighborhood bar that draws a mostly low-key, friendly crowd. Dark paneling and boxing memorabilia festoon the walls, along with band relics from Dick's younger days. Music comes courtesy of a well-stocked jukebox.

Extra
The Manitoba's space was previously occupied by the short-lived Avenue B Social Club and the notoriously sordid gay bar Cake.
