The kitschy bar-restaurant Marion's Continental has a history of expanding beyond its boundaries. First, it carved out a basement gay bar called The Slide next door; now it turns what was once The Slide's upstairs space into The Marion's Marquee Lounge. Once a venue for parties, concerts, and other happenings, the Marquee has been rechristened as a hangout as chilled out as its downstairs brother is brassy. An impressive chandelier—formerly in Marion's—sparkles near the entrance. Farther in, darkly-tinted couches, chairs, and settees in Art Deco, Victorian, and unclassifiably swank styles are arranged in small groups despite the narrowness of the space. (The cozy factor runs high.) The list of house cocktails leans heavily towards the sweet side so those who like strong and dry may be better off ordering a classic. If hunger beckons, there's a bar menu that draws on Marion's favorites; if you want something more, exit stage right for Marion's proper.
