This traditional Irish pub—complete with a dark, wood-paneled interior, nine sports-blaring TVs, and a low-key crowd of usual suspects crowding the bar—does little to stand out in a neighborhood full of them (just that corner holds two more, Pat O’Brien’s and Rathbone’s). Marty’s does boast some pretty nice amenities, however: official dart and pool teams and a backyard (home to barbecues in the summer). And, like its Israeli and American owners, the bar’s namesake isn’t Irish, either: Legend has it Frank Sinatra’s father adopted the pseudonym Marty O’Brien in order to make it in boxing, back in the days when the Irish were the toughest opponents in the ring.
