Cookie-cutter Irish pubs claiming "authenticity" are a dime a dozen, but McAleer's is the real deal. Opened in 1953 by Celtic cousins Frank and John McAleer, the bar resides in a space that's over a century old. While the second generation (John's son Keith) now runs the establishment, the original bar and a menu featuring bangers-and-mash plus fish-and-chips harken back to days of yore. A dozen beers on tap and a beer of the month special attracts local softball, soccer and hardball teams many spring and summer nights as well as a dart league every Tuesday year round. The full-service dining area—filled with wooden tables and chairs—gets especially busy on weekends when neighborhood folks come to cure their hangovers with grease-laden breakfast dishes that would make any Weight Watchers member tremble in fear.
Brunch
Sat-Sun, 11am-4pm; $10 gets you unlimited Mimosas or Bloody Marys with your meal.
