McCormack’s is a standard Irish bar done right. From the Guinness harp blazed into the awning outside, to the rich old wood, to the antique bric-a-brac arranged inside, to the full British pints served at the bar (as opposed to the sissy thimbles often passed off on this side of the pond). There are some modern conveniences tucked in among the framed photos of fox hunts and other agrarian divertissements: The eight mounted flat-screens regularly display soccer, rugby, and all the U.S. sports. A placard out front lists the games, and the crowd inside is widely dependent on who’s playing whom. The menu serves the sandwiches, burgers, and entrées you’d expect, though there are a few nice touches (Irish oak–smoked salmon, breaded mushrooms, pâté) among the chicken pot pie, fish and chips, and broiled pork chops. You can get food in the bar until late at night, and there’s a seated section with table service in the back as well.
