With accordion windows and dark-wood décor, this Irish joint is a few steps above divey; its patrons are a mix of clean-shaven, collar-wearing, early-thirties professionals. Most are UES locals, here to sip Jameson while watching the game on any of the eight television screens hanging above (families, elderly couples, the occasional couple on a date, and tourists from the nearby Whitney Museum of Art can all be found, as well). Black-and-white Yankees memorabilia covers the first wall you see, while Irish icons— traditional hurling paddles, green military flags, bodhrán swords—cover the rest. The back area is the dining room, equipped with black tablecloths, leather-wrapped menus, the Celtic cross, the McKeowan crest, yellowed newspaper clippings about Irish theater, and portraits of Joyce and Wilde.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
