Like the Club Monaco of bars, Merchants can be either comfortable or so dull, depending on what you're looking for. For a quiet drink without the worry of finding a seat, feeling out of place or struggling to be heard, it works just fine. House cocktails like the Sour Apple Martini liven up the formula. On the other hand, if of-the-nanosecond cool is what you're after, you'll be disappointed; but you wouldn't be in this neighborhood anyway, now would you? — Shana Liebman
