The much more casual and homey—but by no means homely—sister of Mercury Bar across town, this bar applies an appropriately Hell’s Kitchen, chilled-out vibe to the same upscale sports bar formula. The bar’s youthful crowd reflects the neighborhood’s mixed population of pioneers who a few years back decided the west side was all right, and who continue to trickle in, despite the masses. The bar may be casual, but it’s still sports bar-times-100 with its digitally-projected games on four different screens, cushy black-upholstered booths, and round two- and three seaters lining the front and middle of the bar. The cozy setting gets even more intimate on crowded game nights, when fans down beer specials and order from the extensive menu of appetizers (think BBQ pulled pork skins or white truffle tater tots), sandwiches (think turkey burger or crabcake sandwich) and salads, skins, wings and dips. Rowdy with standing room only on weekend and game nights, neither crowds nor loud sports-bar kitsch will drown out your conversation here on calmer weeknights.
