The backlit mirrored bar showcases a wide variety of spirits, including Japanese whiskies and beers, but it’s the chilled sake and soju below that are Mira’s real attraction. Flights of the chilled Japanese and Korean drinks are poured and placed in woodcut panels that offer four hefty shots ($14). The more experienced can forego this tasting and select from a finer array of hot and cold sake bottles, along with potent cocktails and Asahi on tap. The happy hour runs until 7 every weekday, except for Fridays, bringing a crowd who line the bar with orders of inexpensive nouveau-Asian street food (including $1 yakitori skewers) and Japanese draught beers ($4). While Mira still presents a certain dedication to the quality and aesthetics in its presentation of both drinks and fare, the reasonably priced menu is a refreshing change from similar attempts at the haute-izakaya.
