Describe Molly's to your friends and you'll sound like you're parroting all the clichés about an "authentic" Irish pub: stern but jovial bartender, sawdust on the wooden floor, Irish tunes on the jukebox, etc., etc. But convince them to come here and they'll realize that Molly's is the kind of place that inspires clichés (and scores of clichéd imitators), not obeys them. I used to consider Molly's my favorite bar in Gramercy. However, after tonight I will never go there again. I took a friend of mine there to hang out after work. However, the bartender refused to serve my friend . The bartender claimed my friend's ID was fake. My friend and I are both over 21, and my friend is one of the most polite fellows you will ever meet. I went to talk with the bartender and explain the ID mix up, but he refused to serve me as well. He ignored my explanation, even when I said that IÂ’d been to MollyÂ’s several times this past summer. The bartender simply cut me off and told me to leave. As a young, female student in NYC I am always aware of my age and sex, and the assumptions people make about me. But I have never been treated with such disrespect at a bar. I donÂ’t know if was because of my age, my sex, or my race, but I'm absolutely sickened by what happened tonight, and I ask anyone who reads this to please not go to this bar.

The bartender who served my friends and I last night may just be the nicest server Ive had in NYC. I feel bad today that I didnt catch his name, but he is the tall-ish Irish fellow among the staff. Other than the service, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks, but the food was just OK (average fish and chips). I will definitely go back to Mollys when Im in the mood for a pint...
