Profile
Once upon a time there were only two—yes, two—bars on all of Avenue B: 7B and Mona's. The avenue has changed a lot, but Mona's hasn't: It's still full of punks, Irishmen and college dropouts. And it still features the same lack of décor—an ancient bar and a few faded posters in the front room and a back room that looks like a bunker with a Big Buck Hunter game. And don't order a cosmopolitan at this no-frills drinking establishment. Oh, they probably make 'em, but do you really want to be on the receiving end of that many dirty looks? — Lissa T. Rodgers
Extra
Music at Mona's generally means the punk-rock jukebox, but on Tuesdays there's live jazz. Amuse yourself by observing the more hung-over patrons' faces when the band starts up.

What a hoot - Irish Music was a real treat!

We were fortunate to find this bar on a very late and VERY cold winter night in February a few years ago! Having a love for Irish music and unable to find much of it in Tennessee .... we were thrilled! We're older than the average crowd and needless to say, one of us is from Ireland. Not only did we enjoy the music, we also enjoyed the crowd. Both were extremely entertaning especially when midnight rolled around and people came rolling in! It might not be much in the way of decor, but it certainly had an ambiance and drew a crowd. We're still enjoying the CD, "Live at Mona's" and we'll be back in May of this year when it's a wee bit warmer and with two more of our Irish folk!
Accidentally Found a Great Dive Bar

My friends and I found this place on Thanksgiving night when the bar we were going to accross the street was closed. What a great find! It's a total dive bar, but so much fun. The patron's and Mona herself were very outgoing and funny. The juke box had lots of great punk music from the eighties that is hardly found in bars anymore. If you're laid back and decor doesn't mean that much to you, check out Mona's. I had a blast there and look forward to going back when I am in NYC this weekend.
