This café by day, wine bar by-night is a welcome addition to Fourth Avenue’s emerging bar strip. (It’s just a stone’s throw from Cherry Tree, 4th Avenue Pub, and Sheep Station.)Though there’s no hard liquor, Mule does have a respectable wine list, a decent selection of bottled craft beers (Blue Point, Smuttynose), and an Italian-inspired menu that favors lighter fare like panini and bruschetta. The whitewashed and exposed-brick interiors can’t quite overcome the gritty reality viewed through the front windows, but the backyard seating achieves something akin to Park Slope Zen. Note to all the aspiring writers: Come dinner, it’s time for talk as computers are banned and wi-fi is turned off.
