A steady trickle of scrubs-clad 30-somethings from nearby Cornell Presbyterian hospital gives this lived-in Upper East Side spot a mellow sense of camaraderie. Wooden ceiling fans, stained glass hanging lamps, exposed brick walls and large high tables by the bar give way to a slightly elevated, expansive dining room done up with dark wood and murals depicting rural and urban Ireland. At the halfway point, a jukebox plays at a volume that is conducive to conversation with the subtly brogued bartender over a pint of Guinness or Stella and hearty meals of Shepherd's Pie, corned beef on rye, fish and chips, or even spinach quesadillas. While the wry placemats quote Murphy’s pessimistic one-liners, the M.D.s, who get a 10% discount with their hospital IDs, are hunky enough to keep thoughts on the bright side.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
