Former owner Ted Mann (also the owner of Bar 4 in Park Slope and Apartment 138 and Camp in Carroll Gardens) and his partner Joe Mento turned a former coffeehouse into an inviting lounge by installing tall tables in front, cozier, candle-lit tables in back, and hanging local art on the red brick walls. From small rear sitting areas, 20-somethings take in the jazz combos, soul singers, and swing bands that frequent the small corner stage. The bartender, pours a mean espresso martini and will recommend others off of the excellent specialty menu based on the tippler’s personality traits. The taps, which boast a fine selection of beers, are located in front of a blue-tile mosaic created by a former barkeep: Expect to elbow your way to the burnished copper bar on weekends, especially if one of the occasional DJs is spinning anything from classic rock to house.
Best of New York: Nightlife
Where to dance with no curfew, ride bikes in the dark, sample a dozen rare mescals, and master the art of Skee-Ball.
