The "café"—more like a not-too-dark one-room dive—attracts both locals and Columbia students willing to commute the ten blocks from campus to hang with the regulars or to listen to occasional poetry readings and musical experiments. With only a few tables, most drinkers covet the bar stools, from which they can watch TV or chat with the bartenders. The owner, a former Jeopardy champion, hosts trivia night every Sunday at 8:30 p.m. The winner gets a free bottle of wine.
NotesScenes from the film The Weather Underground were filmed in this bar, and featured owner Brian Flanagan. In 1999 and 2005, pool teams from the Night Cafe won the APA city championship.
