A one-stop, choose-your-own-adventure Williamsburg haunt, Northsix gives patrons three paths to choose from. Chill out in the cool design concept bar on level one, a converted warehouse hangout area with a quasi-pool room and mini lounge. Or, as long as you’re willing to pay the $7-$15 cover charge, head upstairs for the larger-than-life concert space, equipped with its own bar, ample standing room and bleachers. Bands showcased range from on-the-rise indie rockers like The Postal Service and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, to local old-school staples such as Luna and Yo La Tengo. For the real underground, journey downstairs to the moldy basement where a milder cover (free to $7) awaits, along with untried garage bands jamming under exposed pipes. As an alternate route, arrive early for the 4pm-7pm happy hour and try to crack the hipster dress code, an ongoing mystery to most of us.
Call AheadNorthsix is open only on days with performances scheduled.
