Despite its faux-glamorous name, this enormous lounge isn't stiff and pretentious like many of its ilk. Asian influences like the warm-toned, pillow-strewn window seats and Gothic touches like the lanterns over the bar find an unexpectedly energized balance. The crowd is manicured with an arty streak, and well matched by especially accommodating servers who pour cocktails from the shaker at the table and go whole-hog in dressing up for Halloween and other themed events. While the high-end martini migrated from hotel bars to lounges long ago, this bar at least shows flair in its recipes. The Velvet French is a silky, vanilla-touched rendition of the pineapple-Chambord combo and the Dirty Sage Martini is garnished with a blue cheese olive. A number of bourbons, single malts and wines by the glass enhance the menu, but reserved tables often go for bottle service.
ExtraSnacks of cheeses and lollipop chicken wings are also served, as well as chocolate fondue.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
