Profile

The city’s Irish watering holes have been wildly successful subscribing to a simple McPub formula: a preponderance of shining brass and wood paneling, choice of Guinness and Budweiser on tap, and obligatory, only-in-America fare like nachos. O’Flaherty’s is no exception to this predictable facsimile of old-country ambience, but they do it bigger and better than most. A maze of cozy rooms with library-lined walls and inviting fireplaces carry literary, Alistair Cooke-style pretensions, while an enormous rectangular bar betrays patrons’ true passion—an array of tap beers available by the pitcher. There’s also sturdy fare like stout pie and a warming Irish coffee that arrives with a shot of whiskey and a dollop of whipped cream; a pool table, darts board, and outdoor garden provide plenty of diversion. Not surprisingly, O’Flaherty’s draws a line of rowdies down Restaurant Row on St. Patrick’s Day, but a Sunday-afternoon visit can be utterly enjoyable and surprisingly atmospheric.

My boyfriend and I found this place after a Broadway show and we absolutely fell in love. The live band was amazing and it was a cool hang out.

Awful food

The Guinness is undoubtedly good, but the food is awful. My steak (the most expensive item on the menu) was tough and inedible. They wouldn't deduct it from the bill because I hadn't told them about it sooner! My Husband's "beer battered" cod was breadcrumbed freezer fare. The "fries" were a soggy mess. Appalling cooking and rude people. Drink there by all means, but avoid the food.
