C, E at 23rd St.

Rather than open up just another Chelsea watering hole, Open’s owners thought their dream bar should wear a number of different hats. Consequently, this sleekly decorated space is a mellow after-work cocktail lounge and a sensually lit nighttime hot spot. Low red couches and barstools nicely complement the blond wood bar, and featured artwork hangs at the back of the room. Decidedly not a velvet-rope affair, Open prides itself on drawing a diverse crowd, a large portion of which comes for the Open House martini, a delectable blend of vodka, lime, grenadine and liberal amounts of mint – like a mojito with more kick. During warm weather, the all-glass side doors open to the street, giving the place a block-party feel.
