Profile

P.J. Clarke’s newest owners—actor Timothy Hutton and veteran restaurateur Phil (Docks) Scotti among them—won’t mind a bit if their painstaking yearlong construction job goes unnoticed. In fact, they’d prefer it. That’s why, even though they gutted the ghost-ridden saloon and modernized the infrastructure, they kept careful track of where every last relic went, including the jukebox, the chalkboard menus, and the ashes of an especially loyal former customer. Change is most apparent upstairs at the Sidecar, a posh, artfully aged addition with a separate entrance and its own kitchen, whence will come various upscale alternatives to P.J.’s signature bacon cheeseburger and home fries.

Manhattan Landmark

This is one of those places that you'll always remember. It is a Manhattan landmark, and a perfect place to bring a date or end an evening after a long work week. The food is simple but well prepared, and if you like cheeseburgers, there are none better, anywhere. Make no mistake, you need to experience the historic PJ Clarke's on Third Ave., not one of the spin-off locations. There's no substitute for the original.

INCREDIBLE

Of all burgers in the city, Clarke's definitely have the best patty. Sinking your teeth into it is a whole different experience from the typical first bite of any other burger. So much flavor, but not too much (which is key), you can't help but consider ordering a 2nd (or 3rd if you are Ezra Levine) even though you are stuffed. The fries are can be amazing, but are only decent when crispy. Great service, great people, great environment, and simply superb cheeseburgers.
