Palo Cortado's namesake is a rare sherry, the result of a happy accident in the aging process. The spot—brought to you by the team of Alessandro Peluso (Bocca, Cacio e Pepe) and Alessandro Piliego (former GM at the House)—has just four beers on tap, but boasts an impressive list of Spanish wines, sherries, and cocktails like the Cava cocktail (Juve Y Camps Brut, grapefruit bitters, sugar cube), and a menu of updated tapas classics like cod-stuffed peppers and lamb meatballs in yogurt sauce. The windowed façade showcases a candlelit bar (topped with tiles from a 180-year-old church) and exposed brick, while the dark wood, leather-bound books, and cast-iron chandeliers evoke an old Spanish castle. But there's no mistaking what neighborhood we're in: the crowd is mostly local and a sign in the window declares that, while they are baby friendly, strollers must be parked outside.
