Since 1997, The Parlour has provided Upper West Siders plenty of room to indulge their passions—be it quaffing a cold pint, watching a soccer match, or grooving to a live band. True to its name (which derives from an ancient Irish law mandating a hospitality room in every village), this place exudes rustic neighborliness. Décor is simple but inviting: plenty of exposed brick and beige wood, ceiling beams and a smattering of antiques. Three full-service bars dispense Guinness, Coors Light, and Magner’s Cider while cosmopolitans and apple martinis anchor the list of cocktails. The clientele of 30-to-45-year-old teachers, off-duty cops, and families are as likely to eat here as they are to down Bass while watching Glasgow Celtic Soccer on one of the eleven flat-screen TVs. The kitchen delivers competent pub grub and straight-forward rib-eye steak, Irish beef stew and bangers and mash. A pool table, an internet jukebox of soft rock, and karaoke nights add to the entertainment options.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
