Profile

Peculier is a veritable museum of beer, with two separate menus (one foreign, one domestic) comprising an encyclopedia of the brewing arts. On the walls, you can study the evolution of the aluminum can and deconstruct the semiotics of the neon signs advertising your favorite brands. But like other museums, the place is swarming with rowdy mobs of students during peak visiting hours (Thursday through Saturday after 9 p.m.). To appreciate the collections in relative peace, drop by earlyish or on weeknights, when the bartenders won't be too harried to explain the precise differences between a bock and a dopplebock.

One thing is being a beer museum and another is being a very nice spot. Peculier is really nothing special other than... the beer menu. The music is ok, the service is decent and the atmosphere/crowd is forgettable. That said, if you want to try a new beer everyday, this is a good spot.

all in all, good times

great beer, good food, decent prices, occasionally ditzy bar maids, odd smell, hipster jukebox. beerwise, my favorites include rogue shakespeare stout for 7.50 (I've been to places where they charge 15 bucks for it-in PA no less), and the beers in the "strong beer" section are very good too. get their cheese fries!!
