The drinks are pricey and underwhelming, but you're not really here for the drinks. You're here for the closest dry-land equivalent to the experience of sipping a cocktail on the deck of a great ocean liner. Instead of the seas, it's the spires of the city that surround you; ample helpings of fresh air and blue sky provide unmitigated joy (and something of a shock to the system). At night, Pen-Top becomes one of the city's most potently romantic places to catch a nightcap. The experience is considerably less grandiose in winter, but the seats do make nice spots to get cozy in with your paramour and count the limos cruising Fifth Avenue.
ExtraThe Pen Top's clubby vibe and astro-turf roofdeck has been replaced with a glass-encased bar resembling a big block of incandescent ice.
