Decked out in mirrors, black marble, and strobe-lit prism glass chandeliers, PH-D is the Dream Downtown's throwback to an 80's penthouse. From the guys behind TAO, Lavo and Avenue, the space is clubby with strictly (couch-banquette) table seating, sparklers flying with bottles of patron and a dance floor filled with Christian Louboutins, on both men and women. Twelve stories up, the real draw is the long narrow deck that spans the left side of the space with banquettes--some intimate for no more than three, some larger for up to twelve--overgrown plants, and one of the city's most spectacular views, facing north with clear shots of the Empire State Building and city skyscape. The windows on the right side, however, have clear shots into the offices of the building across the street. Bottom line: if you're looking to pop bottles and ball out in a disco-era penthouse a la Wall Street (the original), the Dream will take you back.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
