Zak Pelaccio and his Fatty Crew (Fatty Crab, Fatty ‘Cue) have enlisted Top Chef alum Leah Cohen to helm this Southeast Asian-inspired bistro tucked along the LES that specializes in deliciously scorching Thai and Filipino fare. You may be risking a runny nose when you sample the piquant khao soi, made with red curry, coconut milk, chicken, egg noodles, pickled mustard greens and shallots but thankfully that’s where their cocktails come in. Order the PX Puko (Coconut), a mix of PX sherry, coconut water and whiskey barrel bitters that arrives in a shelled coconut and provides a soothing, milky antidote to all that heat found in the food. For lighter tipples, try the Phuket Punch, a blend of prosecco, grapefruit-cinnamon syrup and mint or the Clinton St Cooler, which features Cocchi Americano, Hitachino white ale syrup, orange blossom and sparkling wine. Between Monday-Wednesday, Chef Cohen prepares a five-course tasting menu for $39 and in warmer months, a cool downtown crowd may be found dining – and drinking – al fresco in the restaurant’s backyard.
