Decked-out almost entirely in worn, dark wood, the interior of P.J. Horgan's suggests the belly of an old sea vessel. Amber lights and stained-glass lamps accent the narrow room while deep slices chipped off the timber columns and horizontal slats overhead make you wonder if the tavern wasn’t whittled by hand. Framed works by Irish artist Jack B. Yeats hang on the walls, along with decorative steins and random antiques, like a spittoon. The only thing missing is an overbearing guitar-strumming folk singer in the corner. Not that anyone notices: The chance to have a cozy chat is what draws a steady trickle of regulars to this longtime Sunnyside standby.
