In a part of town where the expression "bang for the buck" is often taken literally, this surprisingly pleasant refuge sticks to the figurative meaning by offering free hot dogs, cheap pitchers, and mid-to-bottom-shelf liquor at prices that don't do much damage to the antique cash register surrounded by fake skulls. The small, brick front room—livened up by an MP3 jukebox and watched over by a hippo head—isn't the only place where value lies at the former Tobacco Road: Beyond the red curtain is a cavernous room with neon beer signs and two pool tables. As for the regular clientele of day laborers and Port Authority commuters, they're most likely to stay at the bar and drink until they feel like a million bucks.
