Pound and Pence huddles in Wall Street’s shadows at the foot of Liberty Tower, brought to you by the same consulting team responsible for familiar downtown wine-and-dines like Art Bar and Merchants East Cigar Bar. The spot indeed resembles its cross-Atlantic inspiration, from the Brit pilsner taps to the warm, dark-stained woods and copper of the bar top; there’s also a casual second-floor library/living room, a fully operational fireplace, and a pool table. The pub’s full restaurant serves standard beer-battered fare to the swelling crowds of uniformed number crunchers who elbow their way in from 5 to 10 p.m. each weekday. Despite the royal markings and accordingly higher prices, Pound and Pence lacks most of its district’s pretense and feels downright humble. — Patrick Coffee
