It’s a downright miracle that this neighborhood spot survives on West 46th Street’s tourist-crazed Restaurant Row. While the surrounding cabaret bars and eateries are overflowing with an odd mix of early-bird bargain-hunters and raucous beer guzzlers, this comfy old townhouse hosts an eclectic, laid-back crowd that expects to hold conversation over its pints. The mixed scene is a little bit honky-tonk (a jukebox looping Toby Keith and Garth Brooks), a little bit quiet chic (votive candles flickering against exposed brick walls, a couple of plush couches), and a lot Irish pub (the barkeeps serving drafts amidst antiques and scenic prints).  The healthy selection of tap beers—from Guinness to Smithwick’s and Bellehaven IPA—are sometimes served up by participants in the Guest Bartending program which allows novices to try their hand at pulling pints and mixing cocktails. Perhaps the real wonder: the cleanest bathrooms within spitting distance of Port Authority. — Katie Charles
