Tucked away among far South Slope’s neon bodegas and crumbling pre-war façades is this low-key drinkery with lots of autumnal ambiance: warm-hued walls, dark, wooden tables, and low ceilings. A red-glowing, faux wood-burning stove in the back corner is almost as endearing as the small garden out back lined with wooden benches, a flowering bathtub, and fiberglass grammar-school chairs. An intimate second bar boasts a sturdy selection of creamy stouts and IPA on tap, wines by the glass and specialty cocktails. Pair with a brief selection of cheese and meat boards or three varieties of savory pie (steak and cheese, Shepherd's, and curry vegetable). You’d be hard pressed to find more off-the-main-drag flavor.
