The new owners of the club formerly known as the Cooler simply slapped on some fresh red paint and re-opened for business. Operating more as an intimate performance venue than as a bar or lounge, Rare plays host to everything from art showcases to trendy rock shows to foot-stomping drum-and-bass weeklies. Drinks are on the expensive side, but the music-loving crowd heads here more for the bands than for the booze. Worn-out patrons in need of a break can relax on comfy couches in the room adjacent to the small stage or in the club’s spacious back rooms.
