True to its name (and like its sister The Delancey), this bar has a long entryway painted in its signature colors. But like many Williamsburg residents, Red and Black shows signs of an identity crisis. Is it a lounge? A neighborhood watering hole? For a crash course in clash, look no further than the swanky blue-felt billiards table lit by a cheesy Bud Light lamp up front. The larger, rectangular back room feels less conflicted, but the cushy brown vinyl banquettes and dark wood tables still surround a dance floor made of concrete. Primarily steered by promoters and DJs, the small mixed crowd seems drawn from a Brooklyn deeper than the first few L stops. The backyard patio hosts barbecues Fridays and Saturdays in the summer. — Andrew Paine Bradbury
