Remote Sports Bar anticipates its patrons’ core cravings—sports and alcohol, not necessarily in that order—and provides generous helpings of both. Sixteen televisions stare down from the ceiling broadcasting from every conceivable arena, while an LED news ticker above the bar spools out the latest headlines and betting odds. As for drinks, Remote leans away from the Coors Light overkill toward disarmingly offbeat bottles and drafts like Magner’s. Despite having almost as many electric casino games as tables—perhaps an unwise use of very limited space—Remote is as ambitiously unpretentious an Astoria dugout as you’re likely to find.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
