From the outside, Rhône looks about as welcoming as an airplane hangar. But since it's in the Meatpacking District, you'd rightly assume that, inside, the place has been gutted and converted with de rigueur concrete walls, lofty ceiling and sleek modernist furniture. Manicured hands hold long-stemmed glasses, though here those glasses contain wine, not Cosmos. More than 20 varieties are available by the glass, 200 by the bottle. But don't expect to encounter tweedy oenophiles pontificating on the finer points of "nose" and "finish": Rhône can stage a serious party, particularly after midnight on weekends. And you needn't be a Prada-attired, German industrial techno star to feel welcome.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
