Caracas has long been known for its arepas – Venezuelan corn muffins stuffed with tasty fillings like shredded beef and sweet plantains – but now that the restaurant has acquired its liquor license, the focus has expanded to alcohol. Dubbed Roneria (“rum bar” in Spanish) Caracas, this bar’s spirit of choice is rum. Apotheke’s Orson Salicetti contributed recipes for drinks like the Rockaway Mojito and a Manhattan made with rum instead of whiskey or bourbon. The bar offers more than 30 aged rums from Central and South America, and rum tasting flights are available. Food is also served at the bar; the De Pabellon arepa, the Venezuelan national dish made with shredded beef, black beans, white salty cheese, and sweet plantains, is not to be missed.
