Grove Street is the block for cheap music and camp, with Arthur's Tavern, Marie's Crisis and this raucous bi-level piano bar/cabaret all within stumbling distance of each other. Rose's is low-ceilinged, dark and refreshingly informal, with a few cramped tables and a crowded, smoky bar. On weekends, Broadway veterans play everything from jazz standards to '50s rock while the bartenders and servers perform backup. During the week, gay men who even when sloshed remember all the words to every Judy Garland song ever, take over the open mic. In the comfortable cabaret room upstairs, a mixed crowd gathers for special shows that exemplify Rose's unqiue brand of rock/funk/cabaret madness.
