Finding a chill bar in the packed-to-capacity East Village can be a frustrating experience, so it's always a pleasant surprise to come across a comfortable, reasonably priced spot like Route 85a. This basement-level lounge with a laid-back vibe is different from the other bars in the nabe. Outer-borough types walk right by this place—they must all prefer street-level establishments—so the clientele is pleasantly (and uncharacteristically) limited to East Village locals enjoying the good seating, excellent jukebox, DJs, and '80s nostalgia piece de resistance: Ms. PacMan.
