Profile

This venue is closed.

The owner of RSVP originally wanted to open a sports bar in Brooklyn, but when a former cafe on Broadway in Astoria went up for sale, he saw bigger potential in the neighborhood's growing nightlife scene. In this neck of the woods, nightclubs can be prodigious affairs: Laser lights might be stationed out front, and $200 bottle service is the norm. So instead of catering to sports fans, he opened this upscale lounge offering specialty cocktails, D.J.'s, hookahs, and bottle service for a crowd of young locals. In the early evening, you can spot couples sharing bottles on banquettes, separated from one another by sheer red curtains that give the lounge a romantic, Arabian Nights feel. At around 11:30, the single partiers take over, checking each other out and dancing to hip-hop, neo-soul, and house mixes. RSVP tends to be the focal point of a night out, and patrons dress accordingly: women in sparkly tops, men in graphic tees or button-ups. And the few regulars who come after work will find that the owner managed to find a place at RSVP for his love of sports after all: on the flat-screen above the bar, always tuned to the game or a big fight.
