St. Vitus is a heavy metal-influenced bar in Greenpoint opened by musicians and guys who have worked in the music biz. The place is warehouse meets concert hall: black walls, exposed brick, tile, plain bar stools, an enormous stage in the back, and sliding doors to divide the space, while red candles and a lone Iron Maiden picture serve as the only decoration. The bar offers some cheap beer and shot combos named after increasing levels of canonical importance (Priest, Bishop, etc.). The menu features some signature cocktails and some delicious local takes on the Korean pork bun, but it all comes down to the pickle-backs, which are made exclusively with Brooklyn Brine. An eclectic lineup of acts will grace the stage, but the owners want to be selective with the bands. And yeah, it's a hike to get there from the train, but it looks like the locals are digging it, and it's worth the trip.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
