A palette of royal burgundies, deep blues, and golden yellows permeates this Upper East Side haven, while flowing fabrics swathe the ceiling and a wrap-around Lucite bar emits a warm, red-orange glow. At velvety chairs pulled up to romantic tables for two, couples nibble sushi and sashimi and order sake by the glass, carafe, traditional wooden box or bottle. Broken into categories of pure, premium, and super premium, the drink menu briefly describes each rice wine’s smoothness, taste and aroma, and offers a three-flavor sampler as well as a long list of sake and plum wine-infused specialty cocktails such as the Lychee Blossom, a light, sweet concoction of sake, lychee, lemon and peach juices. Bottled beer and grape wine are also on hand for those who don’t want to get nice with the rice.
ExtraThose seeking less sake and more sushi can swing around the corner to sister restaurant, Sushi Hana on Second Avenue.

Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
