Opened in Fall 2004 by two Russians named Sasha, this chic lounge has fast become the place to flash your rubles outside of Brighton Beach, especially if you have a proclivity for pricey, potent cocktails. The narrow, S-shaped room, bathed in bordello red and bedecked with the occasional Soviet propaganda poster (one of the Sashas did a little black-market shopping back in the motherland) is the perfect setting for comrades and the leopard-print wearing women who love them. Smartly dressed gray-haired men get cozy on the long white leather banquettes that line the room while sipping on drinks containing vodka infused with cranberry, lychee, and melon. Baltica beer-pounding twenty-somethings, clad in the latest club gear, opt for the sunken back room, which becomes VIP on weekends for the Moscovite celebrities who frequently turn up. DJs spin the latest Euro grooves at a decibel low enough to allow you to hear the guys at the next table say "na zdorovje" (i.e., cheers).
