The karaoke spot, Second on Second, has yet to challenge the neighborhood hegemony of Village Karaoke or Sing Sing, but it’s a welcome addition to the sing-along fray (and the 60,000-song book is not too shabby). Five private rooms are available for shyer singers; if you like an audience, stick to the main room where a karaoke DJ presides. Sushi is no longer on the Pan-Asian menu, but after a few killer lychee or chocolate martinis, you won’t care. If specialty cocktails aren’t your game, take a look at SOS’s list of varieties of sake. One issue we have: Dim those lights! It’s not cool to be observed through the window by East Village passersby while you’re drunkenly stumbling through Beyonce.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
