Named for Rrose Selavy, the feminine alter-ego of Marcel DuChamp, this unmarked bar on the corner of Bowery and Delancey Street does feel as if it’s from another era. The décor—a mishmash of exposed brick, brass doors, swanky leather booths and industrial metal bar stools—is purportedly inspired by early 20th century Paris. The cocktail menu is particularly indulgent, sprinkled with exotic syrups like pink peppercorn, rose & cardamom, and salted vanilla bean. The most extravagant patrons opt for the “Lavender piscine”—champagne served with a large square of lavender ice and grapefruit bitters, or the “Maison de Sour,” a sweet, frothy treat made with cognac, lemon, herbs de provence-syrup, kummel and egg whites. If you’re hungry, there’s a full raw bar and rotating selection of fresh oysters, which are available for $1 during oyster happy hour, from 5-7pm daily.
