From the people who brought you Uncle Ming's comes this Scottish theme bar, a twist on the antique chic trend begun by Freemans and writ large by the Bowery Hotel’s lobby bar. The Rob Roy–ish décor focuses on an old Scottish design tradition that may or may not actually have existed—there’s a liberal use of stained glass and prints of heroic-looking Scots in kilts, much like the one your bartender will be wearing (only less sexy). Custom wood paneling covers the walls, the ceiling—even the high-tech jukebox is ensconced in the stuff. The “pints” are undersize, but splurging on the single malts will warm you from within, even if the fireplace doesn’t do the job. A refreshingly varied age range, mostly local creative-professional types, seem to enjoy the relaxed, high-concept atmosphere.
