The Shoreham
A separate entrance enables patrons to avoid skulking through the lobby, but if you're not staying in one of the Shoreham's 176 rooms, there's little reason to frequent the bar. Although it was recently renovated, the sparsely posh decor—sharp metal edges, frosted glass—screams 1980s Miami. One wall is covered with slightly misaligned mirrors; any romantic glow from the five-and-dime candles gets overpowered by bright ceiling lights. Not surprisingly, the waitresses seem listless and bored. But the crowd, mostly tourists in their 30s and 40s, seems to be impressed with the fancy vibe—despite the Go-Gos tune coming out of the speakers overhead.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
