Located across from the No. 7 subway line, this train-themed bar celebrates the good old days of luxury rail travel. Past the red neon "Passenger Lounge" sign that pulsates near the main bar, a life-sized model of a club car houses an enclave of booths and small tables. Decked out with dark wood, old-fashioned wallpaper and plush upholstery, Sidetracks also doubles as an Off-Track Betting outpost, with horses stampeding across most of its 45 TV screens. (Owner Dermot Kelly says the bar is an OTB alternative for a "collar-and-tie man, or a lady"). Early evenings draw a small crowd of mostly 30-somethings, along with pockets of drinkers old enough to remember when trains actually looked this way. The average age dips into the 20s after 11pm Thursdays through Saturdays, when the adjoining restaurant closes and DJs start spinning. The theme, however, stays put: Late-night cover charges are collected through wooden ticket windows at the door.
