Where else can you see the next Yeah Yeah Yeahs for $7? After sitting through a couple of drum-pounding, guitar-ripping sets at Sin-é (pronounced shin-ay), it's clear that the bar adds a folksy twist to the punk/indie rock lineup. Like its original incarnation, a fixture on St. Marks Pl. until the early '90s, the focus at the reborn club is on the stage and sound system. A barebones, tucked-between-empty-garages venue, the performance area offers mainly standing room sprinkled with a few bar stools and tables for the weak-kneed. Sin-é covers range from $8 for undiscovered local bands to $15 for special events showcasing bigger ticket indie groups. And with $3 bottles of Pabst (draft beers only go up to $6), Sin-é makes for an easy-on-the-wallet underground music night. A roomy new annex on the corner is connected to the music area by an underground stairway and boasts a full bar and pool table—and no cover.
